Is it all about the money? Is that what drives employees nowadays?
Contrary to what you might think, comp & benefits are not always the biggest motivator when it comes to keeping good employees around. It’s a factor, but it’s not THE factor.
THE factor is whether or not the employee has a good team leader or manager. We’ve all heard it before – people don’t quit jobs, they quit their bosses.
If your company experiences a lot of attrition in a particular department or on a certain team, take a look at your leadership. Maybe it needs some tweaking.
But first ask – what could be at the root of this? Perhaps there is a process upgrade initiative or transformation in process where people are “self selecting” out. Maybe there is a new exec/director/manager who has a significantly different leadership style than the last one. This may cause employees to say “I didn’t sign up for this, I signed on with the last person”. Maybe there is just an inexperienced leader who needs some coaching to realize their full potential.
