Interested in watching The Masters?
Attention all golf-loving slackers out there! A recent survey of 2,051 golf fans by gambling website Pickwise has found that a majority of them watch The Masters golf tournament while at work, potentially leading to a loss of productivity.
Shockingly, 56% of respondents admitted to tuning into the tournament while on the job, with millennials leading the charge. Who needs to complete those financials or spreadsheets when Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm are about to tee off anyway?
Some other interesting stats discovered in this survey:
– In 82% of cases, watching The Masters on company time violates company policy.
– Only 27% of respondents watch other golf tournaments at work. 73% watch only The Masters at work.
– 79% of respondents have never called in sick to watch The Masters, 12% haven’t but “know a friend” who did and 9% have called in sick to watch the tournament.
The survey found that on average, employees spent around 45 minutes per day watching the tournament, which can really add up over the course of the four-day event. But don’t worry, employers! There are ways to combat this workplace distraction. Some companies organize a viewing party for their employees. Perhaps your company or team could sponsor a pool or fantasy event for the weekend. Either way it could be a pretty inexpensive way to gin up some office camaraderie.
So if you’re one of the many golf-loving slackers out there, don’t worry, you’re not alone! Just make sure you don’t get caught by your boss, or you might find yourself in the rough. And for all the employers out there, remember to use this opportunity to foster a positive workplace culture. After all, happy employees are productive employees. Who’s ready for some golf?
