The Argument for Texting Over Calling

“Tim, we’d like to let you know we’ll be sending over an offer this afternoon.”

If you’ve been in the hiring world for long enough, you probably have an ingrained belief that a phone call is far more personal and professional than a message. But that mentality is a bit, well, old fashioned these days.

Younger candidates in particular often prefer messaging and consider it to be more polite. Text, Whatsapp, Slack, Facebook message, LinkedIn DMs — these are all familiar mediums now.

In fact, today, studies show that 3 out of 4 millennials feel that messages are more personal than phone calls.

Unlike a phone call, sending a message indicates you value the candidate’s time and are willing to let them be in charge of when and how they respond.
