How are you feeling this time of year? Renewed? Refreshed?

Spring is at long last upon us, and with it, that itchiness to get out from behind a desk and get out to do something fun.

But not everyone has that get-up-and-go feeling going on.

A lot of people these days are feeling bored, stagnant and very nearly dreary in their jobs. It’s called “rust-out” — sort of like burnout but, instead of being overworked, you’re just bored with work.

“Rusting out” seems to be an increasingly common phenomenon in the workforce. According to a 2023 Gallup survey, 18% of US workers feel “actively disengaged” from their jobs.

What are the symptoms of Rust Out? Here are a few:

– Surfing the web instead of working

– Feeling/being less social, isolating oneself

– Changes in personal habits like sleeping, eating and socialization

– Feelings of “blah-ness”.

Perhaps you don’t have enough to do. Maybe your boss underestimates you. You’re working remotely and you don’t have sufficient connection with others, or you’re in the office but lacking in creative or intellectual stimulation.

Whatever it is that’s got you feeling drab, it’s probably time to change things up. Maybe personally. Maybe professionally. If the change needs to come on the professional side of your life, drop me a note. Let’s talk.
