A few years ago, if you had told me that you wanted to land a job as a “Chief Metaverse Officer,” I would have thought you’d gone down a sci-fi k-hole.
This morning, I did a quick search of my network and found more than 110 such executives listed on LinkedIn (1st, 2nd & 3rd connections). Since my practice & network focus on finance & accounting, I would bet that there are many more. That number is probably going to grow, based on the hype the metaverse is receiving lately. It was all anyone talked about at the last #MWC and #CES trade shows. (If you’re not in the tech world, those are two big pacesetting annual tech industry shows.)
You don’t have to be in the tech world, however, to recognize just how much tech influences just about every industry today. Technical leadership roles are on the rise in general, and a lot of companies seek out candidates for traditional leadership roles with experience in digital initiatives.
As I speak to hiring managers in my role, the technology question tends to come up more and more. So if you’re currently looking for a new leadership role, make sure your resume emphasizes any technology experiences and/or wins you’ve had.
