Networking is hard enough without worrying about whether the people you meet will actually remember you. If you’ve been at it awhile, you may have an “elevator pitch” down that sounds something like your business card:
“Hi, my name is Tim and I’m a Executive Recruiter for Norstrem Associates.”
Accurate? Indeed. Memorable? Maybe not.
If you want to stand out and make people remember you, offer them something better. Perhaps you add in a line about WHY you are there, at that particular event.
“Hi, my name is Tim and I’m here to meet as many great candidates as I can because my clients are hiring like crazy right now!”
You can also go for something slightly cheeky or irreverent:
“Hi, my name is Tim and while I’m technically here because I’m a Executive Recruiter for Norstrem Associates, I also can’t resist the schwag.”
Make it your own — but always try to read the room, of course. Nothing worse than when an attempt at humor falls flat.
