Have you been searching for your next job for a while now?
It can be tough navigating the job market while finding your next opportunity. However, by keeping certain job search statistics in mind, you can improve your chances of success.
According to a recent article (Feb 2023) by Zippia, the average job search takes about 5 months. While this may seem like a long time, it’s important to stay persistent and keep searching for the right job. Additionally, 73% of job seekers use online resources in their job search, so it’s important to have a strong & professional online presence (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc) and utilize online job boards and career websites.
Networking is also key to a successful job search, as 80% of jobs are never advertised. Building professional relationships and making connections in your industry can greatly increase your chances of finding a job.
It’s important to remember that employers spend an average of just 6 seconds reviewing a resume. This highlights the importance of having a clear and concise resume that effectively showcases your skills and experience. Six seconds isn’t long so it’s important that the top 1/3 of the first page of your resume has some eye grabbing material!
The Zippia survey put numbers to patience and persistence in a job search. The survey found that on average, 44% of respondents found that it took a couple of weeks to hear back from employers during the application process. 37% said it took one week and only 4% heard back within one day.
Some other interesting stats from the article:
• 65% of currently employed individuals are looking for new jobs as of the end of 2022/beginning of 2023
• 85% of all jobs are filled through networking
• Roughly 50% of job applications come from job boards
As a job seeker, it’s important to stay persistent while searching for the right opportunity. Utilizing online resources, networking, and having a strong resume can greatly increase your chances of success. Opportunities with exciting companies are plenty if you know where to look and how to position yourself. If you have trouble with any of these areas, give me a shout!
