What does hiring look like in the next year? This is a question on the minds of many of my clients, candidates and those in my professional network.
At the end of July, news leaked that Apple is going to slow down hiring over the next year in anticipation of a looming economic downturn. Even though not an official announcement, it instantly made news since Apple has historically been somewhat impervious to the economy.
Other big tech companies seem to be slowing hiring too — Alphabet (Google), Amazon, Meta (Facebook), Microsoft, and Tesla were all mentioned by Bloomberg as cutting jobs or curbing hiring.
I think the frothiness of the Central Florida business environs should make the area a bit more immune from significant downturns. Dynamic companies continue to relocate to our area which perpetuates our high demand for talented professionals.
Either way, whether or not tech is a bellwether for other industries & areas, if you’re looking for a new role, best to stick your head up and look around before the weather changes!
