Is Hustle Culture Dead? Or thriving?
You can find debate on this topic with ample discussion on both sides as well as right down the middle.
From the Great Resignation to quiet quitting, we’ve seen a lot of terms being coined that essentially point to the same same question: Are people seeing return – spiritually, professionally and personally – from the Rise and Grind of hustle culture?
Elle magazine thinks that hustle culture is dead. Specifically talking about women, though. Women who are tired of trying to be “girl bosses,” and looking for “something more.”
I tend to agree with Jason Saltzman, CEO and cofounder of the app Relief who says people can definitely thrive in the hustle culture. As long as they are willing to erect boundaries. It’s going to take thought and a little introspection but Saltzman goes on to suggest techniques to avoid burnout. Techniques such as prioritizing tasks, setting realistic goals, managing time efficiently and taking breaks throughout the day. This last point dovetails into his last two suggestions – First practice self care. Self care like finding time to sleep, eat, emotionally recharge and exercise. Lastly – all this combined should help individuals to find a healthy work life balance.
As a recruiter, I totally get this. And while my job is to place ambitious professionals in the roles that will best serve their careers and my client companies, at the same time, I’m a big proponent of people making smart choices for well-balanced lives. Our bodies work in cycles. All human bodies do. Find yours, optimize them and thrive.
It’s only by taking care of ourselves that we can perform well in business, after all.
