We hear so much about the hybrid work trend, but the problem is, it seems to mean something different at every company.
For some companies, #hybridwork revolves around rigidly defined schedules: employees come into the office on MTW and stay home Th & F. Or they alternate, with some groups coming in some days, others on other days.
But there’s another way to look at hybrid work, and that’s in terms of what work needs to get done. For instance, tactical, skilled work such as writing, coding and working on databases is often most productive when done remotely. But strategic and creative work that requires collaboration works best when employees can be together.
Gartner says 82% of company leaders plan to let their employees work in a hybrid way indefinitely, if not permanently. The numbers I’ve seen with my clients – while anecdotal – back this up.
But if company leaders aren’t considering exactly what “hybrid” means in their own business, they could be missing out on an opportunity to attract the best talent.
