Your employees aren’t slackers. They’re not “quiet quitting” because they’re lazy or disenfranchised. They’re just not engaged, and there’s probably a reason for that.
A recent Gallup survey found that, whatever you want to call it, more than half of the US workforce is not really feeling it at work these days. Employee engagement has been dropping since the pandemic started, and that’s not good for anyone.
For example – that same study finds that the share of actively disengaged works has jumped to 18% in 2022 from 14% in 2020. Correspondingly, employee engagement is waning, with only 32% describing themselves as involved & enthusiastic at work, down from 36% in 2020.
To put a bit of a positive spin on this. For those of you who are motivated & engaged – now is your time to get ahead. Make the most of the opportunities to flex new muscles & grow as they come your way in these next number of months!
Remember, though, that people WANT to feel engaged at work. They want to have a sense of purpose, be able to clearly define why their role matters, and see a clear pathway for career advancement. Are you giving them these things?
Investing in their professional development is one great way to infuse a little spark into your employee’s outlook. As a recruiter, the desire people for advance ment in their careers over time is something I deal with on a daily basis.
What is your company — and your leadership — doing to stand out in this way?
