Science fiction fans of a certain (long ago) era remember with fondness the Doctor Who television show on PBS. It was a nerdy British affair that still holds up pretty well today.
But I’m not here to talk about TV. I’m here to talk about a really interesting study some folks conducted.
By analyzing the contributors to each Doctor Who episode that aired from 1963 to 2014, they deduced that when the creative team had “fresh blood,” episodes were consistently critically rated higher.
The takeaway here is that “teams with new faces produced highest-rated episodes,” according to the BBC.
Translate this to the work world, and there’s an easy parallel to draw. If you want innovation and creativity, bring in fresh faces — specifically, diverse faces.
More and more these days, studies show that diversity drives creativity and innovation.
