Heading into annual review meetings there’s an important question to ask yourself.

It sounds a little self-helpy, which you may or may not be a fan of, but regardless, it’s an important question:

Do you know your worth?

I happen to believe that everyone is unique and valuable in their own way, but today we are going to address value/worth at the workplace.

Worth at the workplace is most commonly reflected in compensation paid. Salary, benefits & TComp. Salary transparency laws are becoming more and more common, which makes it easier for professionals to gauge the going rate for open jobs. But if you’re in the middle of a job search, there are other things to think about.

👉 Are you experienced or talented enough to command more than the going median rate for your role? More specifically – what sort of return on your salary can you bring to the company in Made/Saved’s? Or is your salary a net expense?

👉 How do benefits and other perks factor into salary negotiations for you?

👉 How comfortable are you talking about salary?

As Glassdoor reports, the “hush-hush” mentality around discussing salary exacerbates the problem of underpaying.

While as a recruiter, I can’t talk about what other people make, I always encourage candidates I’m working with to get comfortable talking to their peers and others in the industry. This way, they have enough information to make rational career decisions.
