Competing in the War for Talent as a Smaller Company

As a smaller company, you may feel daunted by how you can attract and retain the best people. During this time of rampant #jobdisruption, I’ve noticed a few trends that put a company at a hiring advantage. It’s all about the people.

1. Invest in your people. Professional development opportunities are a huge draw for younger workers in particular. Invest particularly in technical training and mentorship programs.

2. Reward your people. As your company grows, make sure the employees growing with you are rewarded with equity and other benefits.

3. Recognize your people. Financial benefits are awesome, but it’s not everything. Employees want to be recognized, publicly, for their hard work.

The job seekers I interface with on a daily basis are looking for more than just a paycheck. They seek opportunities to make a difference — and be recognized and rewarded for it.
