Happy Friday!
Speaking of Friday, let’s dive into an interesting topic with some long-held beliefs and taboos. What days and times are best to interview?
I’ve been doing this a long time and have heard many “nevers” and “always”. Here are some:
• Some research suggests that the best time for an interview is between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. During this window, interviewers are typically more alert and receptive, providing an optimal opportunity to showcase your skills and make a positive impression.
• According to some, Tuesday is the most favorable day for interviews. By this time, hiring managers have settled into the week, making them more attentive. Wednesday is another strong option, striking a balance between early-week energy and end-of-week distractions. Thursday, while less popular, allows interviewers to focus before the weekend.
• Factors such as industry and company culture should also be considered. CPAs in public practice most likely won’t want to conduct interviews near 3/15, 4/15, 9/15 or 10/15. Controllers – and CFOs to a lesser extent – probably will try to avoid the first week of the month. Their closing period.
Understanding the best days and times for interviews can provide a competitive edge. Aim for Tuesday mornings or Wednesday afternoons, aligning your availability with optimal slots.
Remember to be flexible and adaptable during the scheduling process, tailoring your availability to the employer’s needs. Combine this knowledge with preparedness and confidence, and you’ll be well on your way to acing your next job interview.
