The Great Resignation spawned a whole new lexicon for the workplace.
First there was quiet quitting. Next came quiet hiring. Not far after that came “presenteeism”. Presenteeism is when workers stay in a job they don’t like while growing more resentful and less productive.
Now, there’s something even better: rage-applying.
That’s when people get so fed up at their jobs that they compulsively apply to new ones on a whim. Google Trends data shows a significant spike in people typing “rage applying” into the search engine beginning in mid-January of 2023.
“Most rage-applying occurs when individuals channel pent-up feelings of frustration and rage into action” observed clinical psychologist Dr Carla Marie Manly recently. “People tend to rage-apply when they feel as if they’ve been under-appreciated, passed over, or stuck in a toxic work environment.”
If you’re tempted to go on a rage-applying bender, take a deep breath, take stock of what you really want, and give me a call or drop me a note. We can help you find your calm center in a new, better role.
