Check out any job site (and many career pages of company sites), and you’ll notice that there are plenty of open roles waiting to be filled.
But look a little closer, and they’re not all real jobs.
I’ve heard stories of candidates following up on an online job posting by calling the company’s HR department directly, only to be told they’re not really hiring. Some hiring managers will even admit that they keep job postings up when the role has already been filled — or was never going to be filled in the first place — simply to give an impression of a thriving, growing company.
Personally, I’ve experienced this directly with companies I’ve targeted for recruitment services. Also – if you haven’t figured it out yet, some recruiting firms regularly post a rotation of jobs in an attempt to keep a fresh flow of resumes. Applicants then hear “Oh – we extended an offer on that position yesterday”. Yea right.
What’s the big deal you may ask? Confidentiality is the big deal. If you’re interested in confidentially considering positions which may be a step up, you don’t want to be putting your resume out to fake jobs. Once your resume is out, it’s out and at the mercy of the person who gets their hands on it.
This sort of duplicitous nonsense is something you won’t deal with when you work with me to find a new job. We start with a confidential call, discuss your interests and go from there. We’ll never send you on a wild goose chase or submit your resume anywhere without your permission.
