“Tim, why can’t I find a 100% remote position?”
Remote work gets a lot of airplay in HR circles, but it’s not as common as you might think. In fact, according to LinkedIn, the abundance of remote work options is trending downward.
Of course, every survey and pundit seems to have a different opinion on the prevalence of remote work. Still, I laughed when I read the sentiment of one CEO, Filip Kaliszan, who heads up Verkada, a building-security firm in Silicon Valley:
“During the work-from-home stage of the COVID pandemic, he found that isolation made Verkada’s engineers more quarrelsome.”
As a recruiter, my clients are pivoting away from fully remote positions and going with 4/1 or 3/2 models. Be it right or wrong, the two issues brought up most frequently by executives are diminished productivity and stunted career development of the fully remote workers.
I’m still hearing from plenty of folks who want to land fully remote positions, but pickings are getting slimmer.
Drop me a note or give me a call. I’m interested to hear what your company and colleagues are experiencing.
