How’s your mental health these days?
Nearly half of employees say their mental health has declined since the pandemic started, according to McKinsey. And the firm also reports that mental health disorders are causing productivity losses in US companies to the tune of $1 trillion.
Now, some companies are using AI to tackle the challenge. One tech company, for instance, has created AI tags that employees can wear to detect and monitor stress levels. Another has launched a chat program that employees and managers can converse on, which uses AI sentiment analysis to detect when employees might need to get their hands on some mental health resources.
According to a study conducted by Oracle, of the 85% of employees that say mental health issues at work negatively affect their home life, 68% would prefer to talk to a robot over their manager about stress and anxiety.
Some of this sounds truly cutting edge; some of it sounds awfully Big Brother.
In my daily talks with employees and leaders of companies as a recruiter I haven’t heard of a lot of companies taking advantage of AI to detect depressed or anxious employees, but I am certainly curious about these new technologies. Employee mental health is certainly an active topic in 2023.
