Consumers Reacting to Inflation in 2022

Welcome to #cybermonday – if you’re choosing to participate that is.

Inflation is the word on consumers’ lips. For retailers? It’s promotions.

Newly budget-minded and cautious shoppers are being met with expanded promotions from the likes of Amazon, Walmart, and Target—and those are just the big names.

The idea is to capture early holiday shopping dollars with early discounts. Essentially, we’re looking at double the sales events this holiday season as retailers brace for belts tightening as a possible recession takes hold.

Still doubting a recession is on the way? A new report from PYMNTS surveyed 2600+ US consumers and found 70 million believe it’s already started! 89 million are prepping for what they see as “unavoidable.”

Not the best news, but not all bad either.

I’ve seen economic growth and slow-down periods as a recruiter for 25+ years. One thing is for certain – change is constant. We’ll get through it.

Meanwhile, who’s taking advantage of those holiday sales?
