Where do your best ideas come to you? If you said SHOWER, well, you’re not the only one.
But what is this “shower effect?” And how can you, uh, use it outside the shower?
University of Virginia and University of Minnesota researchers set out to determine why “mindless” tasks like showering can inspire those brilliant thoughts.
Turns out, it really hinges on that “mindlessness.” Moderately engaging activities—like a walk, gardening, or taking a shower—allow the brain to do a bit of constructive exploration. That “mind wandering” inspires creativity and creative incubation.
So rather than thinking hard about a problem, set it aside, find an activity that’s in that perfect medium of engaged but not overly challenging, and let the “shower effect” take hold.
Sounds like science-backed relaxation with benefits. And the recruiter in me says work smarter, not harder!
If you’re in the market for a new job, I suggest putting the search aside and reaching out to a recruiter like myself.
Finding your perfect role really can be like a walk in the park!
