Emotional Intelligence in Leadership

How would you rate your emotional intelligence?

That’s EI for short—the ability to recognize, understand and manage your own and others’ emotions. And after multiple years of a global pandemic, it’s something businesses are paying a lot more attention to.

And it doesn’t look to be going anywhere soon, as Gen Z entering the workforce and Millennials in top positions reshape the way leadership looks and operates.

Having strong emotional intelligence and an empathic leadership style is key to solving current (and future) burnout, disengagement, and high turnover.

But isn’t empathy just understanding what it’s like to be in someone else’s shoes? Surely most of us can do that (that’s another debate, altogether).

Other pillars of emotionally intelligent leadership include context (why did someone make that decision, without justifying their actions) and accountability (fostering honest conversations, addressing the root cause, and holding space for growth).

So how does your leadership measure up?

Emotional intelligence is a trait we find discussed more and more, whether you’re an employee or an employer.
