People are actually using their vacation days this year, and that’s a good thing. Allianz Partners USA’s 14th Annual Vacation Confidence Index shows that a majority of Americans, at least, took a vacation in the last year, which is more than usual.
In a related study, Inside Hook found that 57% of Americans have taken a vacation of at least a week in the last year, up from 44% in the previous year.
According to another survey, though — this one conducted by Korn Ferry — they’re taking shorter vacations and feeling more stressed about it.
Partly this is attributable to the worker shortage, which is placing more pressure on people who ARE employed to pick up the slack.
Korn Ferry’s survey showed that 60% of people are staying plugged in while allegedly on vacation, and 37% check in “multiple times a day.”
With the omnipresent news about workers’ mental health, something seems a bit off here. As a recruiter talking to leaders and job seekers every day, my focus is on work — but I obviously appreciate the importance of not working, too.
