When you’re interviewing candidates for an open role, it’s typically pretty easy to come up with tactical questions to ask about things like experience, software skills and other tangibles.
But behavioral questions are just as important, and can be more tricky to come up with. Based on my 25+ years as a recruiter, here are a few categories you should consider covering:
✅ Questions that get at collaboration skills
✅ Questions that probe into time-management capability
✅ Questions that cover communication skills (hopefully this plays out over the course of the interview as well)
✅ Questions about flexibility and adaptability
✅ Questions addressing their value system and motivations
Of course, you don’t just want to say “Tell me about your value system,” but instead tease out the answers with role-specific questions. That’s where the knowledge of your company and role as well as your expertise and creativity come in.
As for my expertise, it’s in connecting client companies to the best candidates in the first place. Reach out if you’re ready to hire!
