Here’s one way to look at the upheaval of the last few years: as a giant, worldwide corporate experiment in changing how we work.
The New York Times conducted a recent poll of 700 people to find out why they do or don’t prefer working from home. Some of the most popular answers:
🔹 COVID safety
🔹 More sunlight and fresh air on a daily basis
🔹 Less time spent commuting, more time with kids and pets
🔹 The ability to take a quick walk or run during the day — or squeeze in a quick workout
🔹 Sweatpants
Lots of perks, but for plenty of companies, work is about to revert to the old paradigm of being in person — or it already has. So how to hang on to the things that really worked about being remote?
As a recruiter, I don’t necessarily have the answers, but I do hear about the problems. It will be up to company leaders to bring the best of the Great Experiment back into the office.
