“Tim, am I a good fit for that role and company?”
When I’m having a conversation with a job seeker about an upcoming role, I love this question because it shows me that the candidate cares about getting not just any job but the RIGHT job.
Likewise, when hiring managers interview you for a role, they want to sense that you’re invested in it working out. So this is a good question to ask them, too.
Of course, they don’t know you, so they might not have the most informed point of view. But to wrap up an interview, you might consider closing with some version of:
“So, based on our conversation today, do you think I’m a good fit for this company?”
Another way to approach this sentiment:
“Based on our conversation today, this seems like a good fit. Would you agree?”
These type questions followed up with an honest expression of interest in going to the next step in the process will be well-received.
Of course, you don’t want to put the interviewer on the spot, but a bit of candid confidence can make a great and lasting impression.
