In a recent survey by BambooHR, a surprising 25% of C Suite and VP level executives and 20% of HR professionals admitted that they hoped return-to-office (RTO) mandates would lead to employee resignations. π±
The survey seems to shed light on the alternative intentions behind the push for RTO policies. It appears that some companies are using RTO as a strategy to reduce headcount without resorting to layoffs. π€
The survey also found that 74% of HR leaders anticipate RTO to be a source of conflict. Further, 45% of the surveyed employees who have experienced RTO report loss of significant talent at the organization. 28% of surveyed employees said they would consider leaving their positions if subjected to an RTO mandate. Perhaps the push for RTO is leading to increased tension and dissatisfaction among employees? π
As the debate around RTO continues, it appears that there are (hidden) agendas at play. Execs are looking for employees to RTO or self-select out, while employees have suggested they need a bump in comp to consider RTO.
Whatβs the answer? I think β like many business situations β itβs on a case-by-case basis. In order to optimize culture and ensure retention of key staff, companies should consider the well-being and trust of their employees, rather than using RTO as a tool for reducing headcount. π
What are your thoughts on this revelation? Whatβs going on at your company? π
