We came steaming into the new year being assured by the “experts” that 2024 was going to be the year of the Great Stay. Employees were finally settling into their roles after the Great Resignation and the Great Reshuffling. Right?
Not so fast. 🤚🏻
Recent studies and data seem to indicate that we may be in store for a Great Resignation 2.0! According to recent LinkedIn & Microsoft studies, a staggering 85% of professionals in the United States are considering leaving their jobs this year. A number higher than the those during the Great Resignation on 2012 (40%).
The primary drivers in the LinkedIn study are the desire for career advancement opportunities (59%) and job/work burnout (51%). Microsoft found similar results with 68% of respondents struggling with the sheer volume of work and 46% dealing with burnout. 😓
Employers came into 2024 thinking that given all the change from 2020 – 2023, it was time for employee turnover to slow and salaries to flatten out. Employers were hoping to begin to reinstitute “in office” work, only one review per year and more standard salary raises. 📊
With nine of ten organizations concerned about employee retention, this news can only add to their concern. 😟
In my own practice, I am seeing much more candidate engagement and inquiry than in Q4 of 2023 and Q1 2024. Anecdotal? I guess we are all going to find out if we are going to participate in or watch the sequel to the Great Resignation. 👀
