🏢 Not feeling the “big company” vibe when considering your next career move? You’re not alone.
According to a recent U.S. News report, small companies can be hidden gems, with 50% of private sector employees working for them. The benefits? Greater visibility, diverse responsibilities, and a chance to make a significant impact early on. You won’t just be a cog in the machine; you have the opportunity to be a driving force! đź’Ş
Along the same lines, startups can be hubs of innovation and creativity. They’re constantly pushing boundaries and looking for fresh talent to join their journey. Working for a startup means you can wear multiple hats, take on challenges head-on, and be part of something transformative.
But how do you find these hidden gems? Research and networking are the most effective means ! The oft quoted statistic that up to 85% of jobs are found via networking, has been and continues to be debated. Whether you like that number or not, my 30 years in the recruiting business tells me that networking should be an essential tool in your efforts. Attend industry events, join online forums, and use LinkedIn to connect with founders, employees, or alumni of these companies. Your next opportunity might be one message or conversation away.
Another tip is to explore job boards and websites specifically dedicated to startups. These platforms list opportunities targeting specific startup talent. (i.e. Fiverr, Wellfound, Upwork, etc)
Remember, smaller companies and startups may not have the name recognition of corporate giants, but they offer a chance to shape your career, grow rapidly, and truly make your mark. So, don’t underestimate the potential of these work situations and opportunities.
