How are your Zoom meetings going?
In the years (!!!) that have now passed since the pandemic shifted many people to Zoom business meetings, a sort of science has cropped up around Zoom performance and behavior.
One company, BetterUp, which serves as an online coaching platform (and who would know better?), has conducted extensive research into what makes people “good at Zoom.” The research spans over a thousand Zoom conversations, and the end result is that we now know who Zooms best:
⭐️ People who speak around 3% faster
⭐️ People who vary their volume when they speak
⭐️ People who are visibly demonstrative, for instance, nodding, smiling, shaking their heads
⭐️ People who are more “intense” about communication
A deadpan stare doesn’t serve you well on Zoom, it seems, nor does keeping it “close to the vest.”
As a recruiter, I will say this: If you’re participating in job interviews via Zoom, it’s particularly important to take note of these “success metrics.” After all, your goal is to sell your skills & personality and make a lasting impression.
