Are people in your company pulling double duty?
Understaffing is “bad for everybody,” says Josh Bersin. “Bad for the customers. It’s bad for the employees. It’s bad for the company.”
Yet, whether it’s due to layoffs, the Great Resignation or simply a talent shortage in a particular sector, a lot of companies are having to make do with fewer people right now.
A recent study by Fast Company found that 83% of millenials have taken on up to six tasks outside their job description as a result of turnover. Deloitte research found that more than three in four professionals have experienced burnout at their current job.
It’s not just a less efficient way to work. Understaffing breeds resentment and lowers morale. Almost daily, I talk to finance & operational professionals who are closing in on burn out in their current roles.
