What’s your busiest time of year at work?

Many industries have annual busy times of year. For my friends in public accounting, January through mid April is their frenetic filing time. (Hope it’s going well for all you CPAs! 🤜 💥 )

Retail is another sector that tends to be susceptible to seasonal fluctuations. For the majority of the retail world, the pre-Christmas season is the nuttiest time.

But for Chipotle, the seasonal rush happens from March to May. That’s right, we’re officially in burrito season. 🌯

Chipotle is currently running a hiring campaign to bring on 15K employees — who the company claims will stay once burrito season dies down.

As a recruiter, what’s interesting to me about this campaign isn’t burritos (although those are good) but that the fast food chain has put so much thought and intention into marketing around their hiring efforts.

The campaign, called “pull back the foil,” showcases a handful of employees that rose through the ranks at Chipotle to move from frontline workers to managers. This is a career progression that could take someone from $16 an hour (Chipotle’s current average wage) to over $100K in just a few years, if they’re good.

Not every retail company is growing like Chipotle. But like Chipotle, every company could benefit from finding a way to attract talented employees at all levels by showcasing its company culture transparently.
