Digital Nomadism

Like to Travel?

The first country to ever offer a “digital nomad visa” was Estonia, long, long ago in 2020. (It seems like it, anyway.)

Today, there are over 50 countries you can travel to as a digital nomad.

“Tim, what the hell is a digital nomad & WTH is a digital nomad visa?”

Good questions.

A digital nomad is someone who works remotely and earns their income from their computer. This can be an employee of a company, a business owner/solo practitioner (ahem) or freelancer. The one catch is the digital nomad must not be associated, employed, or have clients in the country in which they hold their digital nomad visa.

The difference between a digital nomad visa and a regular tourist visa is that the former requires less paperwork and is generally easier to get. Typically, these visas last from one to two years but can be extended for a longer period of time.

In 2022, Germany welcomed 150,000 digital nomad workers, and in both the UAE and Spain, there were over 100,000 nomads.

This year, even more companies are expected to get on board with offering digital nomad visas. So if your company allows you to work remotely, this could be your year to visit your dream country — and get paid for it.
