No doubt tech layoffs have dominated the news recently.
Watching the ticker tape of tech layoffs has been nerve-racking for a lot of people. But even as mass amounts of layoffs happen at high-profile companies, what you don’t hear in the news is how quickly those laid-off folks are finding new work.
One analysis by Revelio Labs found that 72% of those laid off in 2022 found new jobs within 3 months. Even more surprising, a little over half of those landed roles that paid more than what they were earning in the jobs they lost.
A recent report by the Fed Reserve Bank of Atlanta revealed that the wages of job switchers grew by 7.1% compared with a 5.2% increase of retained employees. That salary premium for new hires applies not only to employees who leave their job voluntarily but also to those who have been laid off.
In short – losing your job doesn’t have to be a career setback. In fact, it might end up launching you into an even better role.
