How about Fewer Meetings This Month

It’s December, the month when we all somehow find ourselves with less time and way more to do.

Meetings can be a real drag this month. They take away from the time we could spend being productive. Of course, they serve a purpose.

Or do they? Yes and no.

Meetings with succinct agendas submitted in advance and well-prepared participants can be highly useful. In particular, they can be excellent places to have creative brainstorms and make decisions that require input or consensus.

But having meetings for the sake of having meetings — or just because they’re “already on the calendar” — does not serve a purpose. As Jason Fried says, “Too many meetings destroy morale and motivation!”

As a recruiter, I’ve rarely met a professional – or anyone for that matter – who admits to loving meetings. And by the way, recent research from Microsoft’s Human Factors Lab has literally proven that brains that don’t get breaks between meetings get too hot! (Google it!)

The best holiday gift you can offer your staff this month? Fewer meetings!
